Plant or gift a tree

in the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve buffer zone.

Plant your tree

Participate in the reforestation of the Monarch region, plant your tree, or give it as a gift. You choose the name you want it to bear.

Participate in the reforestation of the Monarch region

During the reforestation process, we will plant the tree with a name of your choice. It can be your name or the name of a person you'd like to give it to. You will receive a letter with a photograph of the planted tree and a certification certificate. Both will include information about the tree's coordinates, as it is georeferenced on a map. For two years, you will receive an annual monitoring photo so you can see its growth.

  • Customize

Select a name for the tree you will plant and adopt using a simple form and participate in reforestation.

  • Receive

A certificate will be sent to you, and if it is a gift, to the person you gave it to, by email, with a welcome letter that includes: the name assigned to the tree, species, age, latitude, longitude, and the exact location on gmaps of the nursery where the tree you adopted grows.

  • Participate

Together with community residents and Alternare A.C., we will monitor the reforestation and maintenance of your tree.

  • Locate

Once reforested, we will send you an email with a photo of your tree, a certificate with: the tree's assigned name, species, age, latitude, longitude, and the exact location on gmaps of the tree you adopted.

  • Monitor

We'll take care of the tree you reforested and take geotagged photos annually, which we'll share with you so you can keep track of the tree you adopted.

When we restore a forest, we are part of something much bigger. We are investing in a better future. We are building a better world for the health of our children and future generations. By planting and managing our forests sustainably, we create new spaces where plants and animals can grow and thrive. We are promoting economic activity that creates jobs and enables a better life.

The forests of the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve (MBBR) provide the necessary climate for the hibernation of this emblematic species. Some of the main threats affecting these forests and this wonderful migratory phenomenon are climate change, forest degradation, and land-use change (CONANP, 2018). The buffer zone is an area within the Reserve where conservation, regeneration, sustainable management, and reforestation strategies are required. The alliance between the indigenous community and Alternare will allow us to guarantee a 90% survival rate in each reforestation project, thereby contributing to the protection of the ecosystem conditions required by the monarch butterfly for hibernation in our country.

The Alternare team, together with the Carpinteros Indigenous community, will geolocate the trees you plant. We'll send you the exact location of the tree to the email address you provide on this platform, so you can view it on Google Maps.

Provide training and support throughout the reforestation process, from land selection and tree planting to two-year monitoring to ensure the survival of the planted trees.

Forests help sustain life on the planet. They clean our water, filter our air, and cool our planet. Trees provide shelter and rest, shade and shelter. Hence the name of our initiative, BosqueSomos.
By joining BosqueSomos, you'll help improve an important watershed that provides clean water for millions of people, as well as protection for 132 bird species, 56 mammal species (SEMARNAT, 2000), and 423 vascular plants (Cornejo-Tenorio et al., 2003). The habitat is also home to endemic organisms such as the salamander (Pseudoeurycea belli), the axolotl (Ambystoma rivulare), and species under special protection, such as the pine (Pinus martinezii).

Yes, with the information you enter when planting a tree, we will send you a tax-deductible receipt.

Thank you for taking care of forests and supporting community conservation of the monarch butterfly phenomenon! To help us reach our goal, click here (link to adoption).
